Mobile Phones adds craftable handheld devices for communication between players. A phone opens a compact interface with messages, social controls, item transfers and a message composer.

Before private messages become available, one player sends a friend request and the recipient accepts it. The social menu keeps contacts, pending requests and a block list, allowing unwanted senders to be excluded.

Messages produce action-bar and sound notifications. If the recipient is offline, the message is stored and a notification appears on the next login; the inbox can then be opened to read missed conversations.

Items can also be transferred to a friend through the phone interface. Each transfer costs one experience level, preventing the remote delivery feature from being completely free.

The friendship requirement and experience cost keep the social features controlled in multiplayer worlds while preserving messages between sessions.
